Featured Screen Musical

2004   2005

South Pacific (2001) (27/6 - 3/7)
I managed to borrow this musical DVD from the National Library at the Esplanade recently and although I have my doubts about some members in this cast, overall, I think this is an excellently done production of the classic musical movie on racial prejudice and it was very enjoyable. My review on this television movie musical can be found here.

Barnum (1986) (4/7 - 10/7)
Before Michael Crawford was The Phantom Of The Opera, he was dressed in a clown's suit (okay, only one scene though) and dancing in a circus. Read my review of this excellent musical and why my respect for Crawford has grown after watching him in this DVD recording of the London production at the Victoria Palace Theatre.

Cinderella (1965) (11/7 - 17/7)
Cinderella isn't one of Rodgers and Hammerstein's better works but no one can fault this beautiful tale for being unenjoyable. This is the second TV musical adaptation and although the first TV adaptation featured a better singing Cinderella (Julie Andrews), technology had advanced so much between the two adaptations that magic tricks required in such a magical movie Read my review of this second musical and my sympathy for the prince who must have lots of difficulty buying shoes for his wife after his marriage to Cinderella.
